Health System: The Blessing Health System is the largest healthcare provider in the Tri-State Region composed of West Central
Illinois, Northeast Missouri, and Southeast Iowa, and includes two hospitals and a 40-physician medical group. Financially it is a
very strong organization with substantial operating reserves and bond ratings from Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s. The
General Surgeon being sought will be employed by Blessing Corporate Services, Inc., be a member of the System’s group,
Blessing Physician Services, live in or near Pittsfield, Illinois, and be the primary surgeon at Illini Community Hospital, a Critical
Access Hospital, serving a market area of approximately 25,000. The Hospital has a full-time medical staff of nine, with 23 other
physicians from neighboring cities conducting part-time consulting clinics in their specialties. There is one other general
surgeon in the community who is 65 years old and mixes primary care with his surgical practice. Over the past decade, surgical
cases at the Hospital have decreased substantially. A young dynamic general surgeon is needed who has strong contemporary
skills that are competitive with surgeons in larger markets, and also has the personality and communication ability to restore the
community’s confidence in local surgery services. The Hospital also maintains a 24-hour Emergency Department staffed by
employed physicians who will be supportive of the new surgeon. Full laboratory, radiology, and other support departments are on
hand, and imaging technology includes a new 64-slice CT machine.

Community: Pike County, Illinois, of which Pittsfield is the County Seat, is bordered on the East and West by the Illinois and
Mississippi Rivers, respectively, and is rated as the number one deer hunting county in the U.S. It is an outdoorsman’s paradise
with extraordinary hunting and fishing opportunities. Pittsfield, population 4,200, is a clean, friendly, safe, and progressive
community with a robust town square, balanced by a west end commercial strip that includes major retailers such as Wal-Mart,
Pizza Hut, Sears, and McDonalds. The public schools are sound and above the Midwest average in quality, and the town boasts
an outstanding public library and branch campus for the regional public community college. Quality homes are available across
the financial spectrum, ranging from historic Victorian Era mansions along Washington Street to contemporary new
construction at the City’s fringes. Pittsfield is steeped in the history of Abraham Lincoln who was a frequent visitor and tried
numerous cases there, and who tapped two local products to serve in his inner-circle as America’s 16th President.
